Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an Interim Chief Operations Officer for our client, an impactful non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for progressive environmental policies to help shape a better climate for the world! This wonderful  interim, hybrid, and part time opportunity located Los Angeles and offers an opportunity to join an inspiring and mission-driven team!  

OVERVIEW
The Interim Chief Operating Officer will oversee a team of 7 while serving as an advisor and strategic thought partner to the CEO. They will take part in creating engagement, learning, collaboration, and planning for all staff and members of the board with all day-to-day operational business.

The ideal candidate for this position will embody strong leadership and management skills, commitment to equity and organizational effectiveness, and extensive experience in nonprofit executive management with a significant budget.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Work with the CEO and all staff to center equity in the work.
  • Support the CEO in relevant Board of Directors engagement and coordination.
  • Maintain quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Support staff and board planning processes and retreats, upholding systems to track and monitor progress against goals, training, and organizational development.
  • Oversee promotions and merit increases process, as well as a mid-year review process.
  • Coordinate and support annual finance reporting, audit, end-of-fiscal year, budget forecasting, and planning processes.
  • Work with the Finance Director to ensure sound fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure effective and consistently reliable IT and facilities services for staff, including identifying areas for improvement, efficiency, and increased security.
  • Retain a diverse, highly qualified staff by ensuring clear and robust recruitment, onboarding, professional development, and offboarding processes.
  • Effectively communicate new directives, policies, or procedures to senior management.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
  • Values-driven, mission-focused, a seasoned, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience developing an inspired culture focused on equity, collaboration, and continuous improvement among a group of diverse, talented individuals.
  • Nonprofit executive management experience with C3s and C4s with upwards of a $5M budget.
  • Analytical skills, strong relationship trust building, ample people and project management experience, flexibility, agility, emotional intelligence, and discretion.
  • Strong record of fiscal management and budgetary oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience with oversight of human resources functions, with an emphasis on CA labor framework, personnel management, benefits, and recruitment.
  • Experience in strategic planning, project management, and leading key internal strategic initiatives.
  • Strong record of leading key organizational functions and very diverse teams with a targeted focus on continuous improvement and racial justice & equity.
  • Experience working with boards of directors.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle shifting priorities, meet deadlines, and follow projects through to completion.
  • Knowledge of key nonprofit organizational activities including fundraising, human resources, finance, operations, marketing, and communications. Experience in these areas is preferred.

COMPENSATION
This position offers a range of $59-$75/hr. DOE and remote hours!
